Tour de Walter – Raleigh’s Fastest 4k

We’re now on to week 4 of 4 for the 2020 Tour de Walter, if you missed Week 1: the Merry Squirrel 3-Miler, those results are here, Week 2: Sir Walter Summer Camp 4-Miler, those results are here, and finally, Week 3: the Raleigh Run “Thou,” those results (and combined time for the first 3 weeks) are here. Cumulative time will be calculated each week, as the Yellow Jersey is on the line!

This week we have joined forces with On Running and you can win a pair of the brand new On Cloudboom!

Hear that? That’s the sound of your PR falling and records breaking. Swiss engineering colliding with elite athlete input to create the ultimate marathon shoe. Introducing the Cloudboom. Engineered with twin CloudTec® cushioning for instant fit and long-distance comfort. The Boom features a carbon-infused Speedboard to kick right through the 26.2 miles. Everything you need for your fastest marathon ever. The boom is a shoe versatile enough to run fast intervals on the track, and be with you every step of the way to your new marathon PR.

The Male and Female with the fastest time this week will get their own pair!

The On Cloudboom is here!

All Tour de Walter events are free to attend and compete in.

Details for each weeks race will be release each Saturday at SirWalterRunning.com and via the Sir Walter Running Email List each Sunday night.

What is it? The fastest 4000 meters in Raleigh! Is it completely downhill? No. But most of it is!

The course has been professionally measured to USATF certified specs by Brad Smythe with Clockwork Race Timing. Thanks Brad!

Why is it called Raleigh’s Fastest 4k? Because it’s fast! Most of it is downhill. 2.5 miles of fun!

Where do I park? The bottom drive of Carl Alwin Schenck Memorial Forest will be your best bet. That is located at Schenck Forest Access Rd, Raleigh, NC 27607, right off of Reedy Creek Road, not far past the Edwards Mill Road intersection.

Park here at Schenck

Where do I start? A little before the Schenck entrance, if you are coming from Edwards Mill. You will see the  “S” and 4k with an arrow.

Start is a little up from Schenck towards Edwards Mill

Where do I turn once I’ve started? Just run straight! The 1k and 2k are marked, and then you will stay straight into Umstead Park onto the Reedy Creek Trail, home of the Umstead Downhill Mile.

Where do I finish? At the front of the bridge at the bottom of the hill!

Finish at the START of the bridge!

What do I do after I finish? Jog/Walk/Run back up! There will be no return course, as it’s going to be hot, and we want you to finish the series on a happy note! Say hi to the horses on your way back along Reedy Creek Road!

Say hi to the ponies!

When can I run? Anytime between Monday, July 20th and midnight on Saturday, July 25th. Results will be posted Sunday, July 26th. RSVP on Facebook here!

Where will I see the standings? Below, and here (Make sure you filter accordingly). Also, if you haven’t already, visit the Sir Walter Running Strava Club page (make sure and join, so that your marks count).

Final Results are here

No GPS or Strava? You can email your results to [email protected]

What do I win? The Male and Female with the fastest time will win a pair of the On Cloudboom; the lightweight, carbon-fiber-infused shoe engineered for fast marathons and road races!

Run fast, win Cloudboom!

Is there an overall competition? Of course? This series was spawned from our love of le Tour de France. Every second counts when you want to be donned in Yellow! Like Polka Dots? Be King of the Mountain on the first mile, or covet the Green jersey with a fast last mile. Under 25, go for the white jersey! It’s all in fun (and healthy competition)!

Standings through Week 3 are here
