Strava Challenge #17 – Toe the Line 2k

So you like Strava Challenges? We have another for you! If you haven’t already, join the Sir Walter Running Strava club! You can even go to SirWalterStrava.com and it will forward you to the right place. New here? Here’s a primer to Sir Walter Running Strava Challenges, and here’s past Strava Challenges, if you want to “explore the back catalog.”

What is it? The “Toe the Line” 2k is a sampler of the Championship 5k course at WakeMed Soccer Park. The Nike Cross Nationals Regional Championship will be held on this course Saturday, November 30. This will give people a chance to run the first 2000 meters of the course. The course has also hosted the ACC Cross Country Championship, the Great American Cross Country Festival, and more!

What is Toe the Line? “Toe the Line” is a 4.2% gluten-reduced ale brewed with lime and sea salt by our friends at Pursuit Ales, an offshoot of Bond Brothers Beer Co. Pursuit has collaborated with us for the release, and will also be sponsoring the 2020 Raleigh Half Marathon! Join us at Bond Brothers Beer Co., located at 202 E Cedar St, Cary, NC 27511, on Friday, November 30th from 2-4pm for the release. There will be fun raffles, giveaways, and La Republica Food Truck will be on-site all day, starting at noon.

Coming Friday at 2pm!

Where do I park? WakeMed Soccer Park is located at 940 E Chatham St, Cary, NC 27511. If by chance the gate is locked, you can park near the Bojangles down the road (about 1/4 mile) at 840 E Chatham St, Cary, NC 27511 (or wherever you can find a spot closeby).

You won’t miss the sign
Follow the sign to the left, and the course starts near the top of the hill.

Where do I start? The starting line! The first 300 meters (or so) are downhill, on the grass.

The starting line sign is clearly marked.
There should be a faint white line that marks the start. It should be more clear the closer to Friday we get!

Where do I run after the start? The course is pretty self explanatory, but below are some key landmarks to watch for. If you want to run multiple loops, the finish of the 2k is about 200 meters from the starting line.

A little after 1/4 mile, you will veer to the left into the woods.
After the 1000m mark, you’ll make a hard turn towards the right.
Once you come down the hill, you’ll veer to the left, before going back up the long hill.
When you come back to the uphill, stay to the right of the trail.
The finish is at the 2000m sign. The start is another 200m up the hill.

When can I run? Anytime between now and 2pm on Friday, November 29, which is the start of the “Toe the Line” release party at Bond Brothers Beer Co. in Cary. RSVP on Facebook and join us!

Where will I see the standings? Below and on Strava (make sure you filter to “Sir Walter Running” and “This Week”)!

What do I win? All participants who attend the release party will recieve a Raleigh Half Marathon / Sir Walter Running koozie. The fastest Male and Female times will win a Sir Walter Running Squirrel Shirt, and the person who does the most loops at once will get a 4 pack of “Toe the Line” (21+ only – if you’re under, we’ll get you a shirt of your choice)!
