Strava Challenge #18 – Beer RunStrava
So you like Strava Challenges? We have another for you! If you haven’t already, join the Sir Walter Running Strava club! You can even go to SirWalterStrava.com and it will forward you to the right place. New here? Here’s a primer to Sir Walter Running Strava Challenges, and here’s past Strava Challenges, if you want to “explore the back catalog.”
What is it? The “Beer Run” is not a competition, but a casual reminder to give back to those that have supported runners. Trophy Brewing has supported many Sir Walter Running events over the years, so this is a 5 mile run you can do from there. Although you can do this run from any of your favorite breweries. These businesses need our support right now. Let’s show them some! Buy some beer, a gift card, a shirt, some food… whatever!
Where do I park? There is plenty of street parking on Maywood Avenue near Trophy Brewing, which is located at 656 Maywood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27603.
Where do I start? At the edge of the parking lot at Trophy Brewing on Maywood.
Where do I run after the start? You’ll run up Maywood and take a left onto Lake Wheeler Road (stay on the shoulder) and then a left onto the Walnut Creek greenway by the gas station. Once you get to the actual greenway, go right towards Centennial Campus. You’ll stay straight on the greenway, aside from a Left you’ll take at the 1.9 mile mark. This is important. It keeps you on the Walnut Creek Greenway. The greenway will end at Avent Ferry Road. Go Right here (not left to stay on WC greenway). You’ll run up Avent Ferry towards campus until you turn right onto Centennial Parkway (before Burger King), where you’ll run up and (Raleigh Run) down until you get back to Lake Wheeler. The challenge ends there (corner of Lake Wheeler and Centennial), as we don’t want you darting across traffic!
When can I run? Anytime. Trophy’s hours are here.
Where will I see the standings? Below and on Strava, but note, there’s no competitive component to this challenge. Just do it! Support your local brewery, whether it be Trophy, or otherwise.
What do I win? If you complete the challenge and make a purchase from Trophy (or your favorite brewery), send us a photo of you and the beer, shirt, gift card, pizza, etc. and we will save you a Raleigh Half Marathon / Pursuit Ales pint glass. Make sure and send your photos to SirWalterRunning@gmail.com (and tag us on Social Media)!
