2022 Tour de Walter Week 2: TDW Classic – The Dix 2000

So you like Strava Challenges? We have another for you! If you haven’t already, join the Sir Walter Running Strava club! You can even go to SirWalterStrava.com and it will forward you to the right place.

The 2022 Pop Up Miles Season is over and the Tour de Walter has just begun! We’ll announce a new challenge every Monday (or maybe Sunday night), and it will run through the following Saturday at Midnight. All of these are in celebration of the 2022 Sir Walter Miler, which will be held Friday, August 5th at Cardinal Gibbons. We’ll talk about these Strava Challenges of upcoming episodes of the Summer of Miles podcast, so make sure and subscribe!

TDW Classic: The Dix 2000

What is it? The Dix 2000 (1.25 miles) was one of our first Strava Challenges ever. It’s short and sweet and involves some strategy, as you go down, then you go up! It may take you a few tries to master it.

Why again? Dix Park is one of our favorite places. From Pop Up Cross Country to the Runolgie/Trophy races to Dreamville, who doesn’t love Dix Park!

Want to run with friends? Feel free to meet up Tuesdays at 7pm, just let the Pop Up Miles. No official start, so bring your own whistle!

Where is it? Point your GPS to 101 Blair Dr, Raleigh, NC 27603.

If you’re here, you’re in the right place!
You’ll start by going down Barbour (aka Biggs Drive)

Where is the start (and where do I run)? Start by going down the hill on Biggs Drive. The road will veer left, and then go across the train tracks. You’ll go up a little hill and then TAKE A LEFT ON RUGGLES DRIVE. This is the only tricky turn, but there’s a sign, so keep your head on a swivel. You’ll run into Umstead Drive, where you’ll take another left, and then Blair Drive when you’ll take yet another slight left, and run up the hill to the finish. Make sure and make that last turn to end at the stop sign!

This is the Start AND Finish. Start down the hill here on Biggs Drive. Don’t miss the left hand turn on Ruggles! (Look for the Sir Walter Miler sticker on the back of the Stop Sign, while it lasts)

When should I run? It’s hot, so we recommend the coolest part of the day, but good news is it’s short, and there is some shade!

Where will I see the standings? See below and filter accordingly. And we’ll update the cumulative weekly!

The Official Strava Segment: https://www.strava.com/segments/14907238

What do I win? We will have a random drawing for 2 entries to the Raleigh RunDown Downhill Mile, which will be held on Saturday, August 6th, the day after the Sir Walter Miler. With a steady 130 foot drop from start to finish, it’s the fastest road mile in North Carolina! More info on the race is at RaleighRunDown.com

Tour de Walter? Yes. This is the second of a 4 segment Challenge called the Tour de Walter, in honor of the Tour de France. Everyone that competes all 4 segments will get a Tour de Walter koozie, and the Male and Female with the lowest overall time will get VIP seating at the 2022 Sir Walter Miler.
