Strava Challenge – Black Friday Turkey (Creek) Trot

Happy Thanksgiving from the Sir Walter Running team. After you run your Turkey Trot wherever you are, why not bring a friend and run the Black Friday Turkey CREEK Trot at William B. Umstead State Park!

What is it? We like to have a challenge that revolves around Umstead Park every year, and this year we’ll tackle Turkey Creek on Thanksgiving weekend! And it’s a great training run if you’re running the Raleigh Holiday Half Marathon next Saturday, December 4th!

Thanks to Sir Walter team member James East for the idea on this tried and true Raleigh Umstead loop!

Why is it called the Black Friday Turkey (Creek) Trot? We are all for the “Opt Outside” movement on Black Friday and this should give you something to do instead of waiting in line at 5am at Target. And it’s free!

Where do I park? There are parking spots off the Ebenezer Church road entrance that are right by the path to the trail. This is not one of the big entrances to Umstead. 4800 Ebenezer Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27612 is a good place to point your GPS.

Where do I start? You’ll start and finish at the big stump that is right when you walk down the path from the road/parking. Make sure you start by going left (clockwise) onto the Turkey Creek Trail. The Strava Route is here.

Where do I turn once I’ve started? There are only a few turns. All are right!
1. Right onto Reedy Creek
2. Right onto Graylyn
3. Right onto Turkey Creek

Where do I finish? Back where you started, at the big stump!

What do I do after I finish? Go home and eat leftovers!

When can I run? Anytime between now and park closing on Sunday, November 28th.

Where will I see the standings? Below, and here (Make sure you filter accordingly). Also, if you haven’t already, visit the Sir Walter Running Strava Club page (make sure and join, so that your marks count).

What do I win? The fastest Male and Female times this week will receive a 2021 Sir Walter Miler shirt of their choosing and a ribbon (below). The 2nd place female and 3rd place male will also receive a ribbon and a Sir Walter Running shirt of their choosing.

Also – anyone that completes can email us and we’ll get you a $5 off code for the Raleigh Holiday Half Marathon (if it’s not sold out yet)! Come run or volunteer! Details: raleighhalfmarathon.com
