So you like Strava Challenges? We have another for you! If you haven’t already, join the Sir Walter Running Strava club! You can even go to SirWalterStrava.com and it will forward you to the right place. New here? Here’s a primer to Sir Walter Running Strava Challenges.
What is it? This is a celebration of the inaugural Raleigh Half Marathon, which will take place on Sunday, April 14, 2019. This challenge will take you through the first half mile of the course, as well as the hardest quarter mile of the course, aka “Sir Walter’s Revenge,” that falls around mile 12.5 of the actual course. To see a map of the entire course, most of which is on the flat and fast Neuse River Greenway Trail, click here. You can learn more and register to race at RaleighHalfMarathon.com
Where do I park? At Buffaloe Road Athletic Park, located at5812 Buffaloe Rd, Raleigh, NC 27616. You can park right by the track.
Where do I start? On the main road, near the track. You’ll see a yellow ‘S’ on the street, right past the intersection after the track parking lot turn.
Where do I turn once I’ve started? The only major turn will be at the stop sign. During the race, you’d go right, and then left onto the Neuse River Greenway Trail. For this challenge, you’ll GO LEFT, towards the finish.
Where do I finish? Back where you started! Right before the crosswalk, you’ll want to use caution and turn left back onto the main road and finish at the ‘S.’
When can I run? During park hours. In general parks are open from dawn to dusk everyday. Holiday hours can be found here. The challenge ends at dusk on December 31, 2018.
Where will I see the standings? Below (and here)! Also, if you haven’t already, visit the Sir Walter Running Strava Club page (make sure and join, so that your marks count).
Do you have a video of the course for this Strava Challenge? We sure do!
