Strava Challenge #15 – Durant Crocodile 3 Mile

So you like Strava Challenges? We have another for you! If you haven’t already, join the Sir Walter Running Strava club! You can even go to SirWalterStrava.com and it will forward you to the right place. New here? Here’s a primer to Sir Walter Running Strava Challenges. And here’s more information on the Tour de Walter.

What is it? A jaunt through the woods at Durant Nature Preserve! You’ll start on the Border Trail for the first 1.5 miles or so, before heading onto the Lakeside Trail, and then finishing on the White House Road for a nice 3 miler on soft surface!

Why is it called the Durant Crocodile 3 Mile? That looks like a Crocodile, right?

First 5 people to prove they ran this course in Crocs get free entry to the Croc-O-Mile (send us a video)!

Where do I park? You can park in the parking lot at Durant Nature Preserve at 8305 Camp Durant Rd, Raleigh, NC 27614.

Where do I start? At the white spray paint near the information sign.

See that white spray paint? That’s where you will start (and finish)

Where do I turn once I’ve started? This route should be pretty straight forward. But pay attention at the fork around 1.5 miles in. You’ll want to take the 2nd right onto the Lakeside Trail, not the Red Blaze Border Trail that you were on. You will finish by taking a right onto White House Road and finishing back where you started.

Don’t miss this first right turn onto the Border Trail
Watch for the Red Blaze while you’re on the border trail.
Once you get onto the power line section, make sure you don’t miss the Left turn back on to the trail.
At this fork (lake will be straight ahead), take your 2nd Right onto Lakeside Trail (NOT the Red Blaze Border Trail that you’ve been on)
This is the Lakeside Trail. You will see some Blue Blazes.
On the Lakeside Trail, always stay on the trail closest to the water. One Trail is being repaired, but it’s self explanatory.
Halfway around the lake, you will cross this bridge.
After the bridge and you hit the asphalt, make sure you go left to the trail closest to the Lake.
You should always be about this close to the Lake.
Stay to the Right of the house and get back onto the trail when you get near the camping area.
When the Lakeside Trail ends, take a Right back onto White House Road towards the parking lot.
Keep following the White Blaze back to the finish.
Almost there. Stay straight!

Where do I finish? Back where you started!

Finish back at the white spray paint.

What do I do after I finish? Check out the rest of the nature preserve!

When can I run? Anytime between now and midnight on Sunday, July 28th.

Where will I see the standings? Below, and here (Make sure you filter accordingly). Also, if you haven’t already, visit the Sir Walter Running Strava Club page (make sure and join, so that your marks count).

What do I win? The fastest Male and Female time for Week 4 will recieve a Pop Up Miles Shirt! Everyone that completes all 4 Challenges will recieve a Tour de Walter koozie. Check out the Tour de Walter page for Standings and more information.
