2020 Tour de Walter – Raleigh Run “Thou”

We’re now on to week 3 of 4 for the 2020 Tour de Walter, if you missed Week 1: the Merry Squirrel 3-Miler, those results are here, and Week 2: Sir Walter Summer Camp 4-Miler. those results (as well as combined) are here. Cumulative time will be calculated each week, as the Yellow Jersey is on the line!

This week we have joined forces with HOKA One One and you can win a pair of the brand new HOKA Clifton Edge! The Clifton Edge is HOKA’s latest and most innovative shoe to date. The Clifton Edge debuts HOKA’s lightest and highest resiliency foam with an extended heel that makes running down hill smooth, soft, and speedy.

The Male and Female with the fastest combined uphill/downhill time this week, as well as 2 athletes from random drawing, will get their own pair!

All Tour de Walter events are free to attend and compete in.

Details for each weeks race will be release each Saturday at SirWalterRunning.com and via the Sir Walter Running Email List each Sunday night.

What is it? Sadly, we didn’t get to have the 5th Raleigh RunDown Downhill Mile this year, but this should whet your downhill (and uphill) appetite. The Raleigh Run “Thou” is a 1000 meters down Centennial, and then a second challenge of 1000 meters up!

The course has been professionally measured to USATF certified specs by Brad Smythe with Clockwork Race Timing. Thanks Brad!

Why is it called the Raleigh Run “Thou”? This is a play on the Raleigh RunDown, but it’s only a 1000 (meters), instead of a mile. You just have to run it both ways.

Where do I park? Your best bet is to park along the Big Field at Dix Park, which you can set your GPS to 101 Blair Dr, Raleigh, NC 27603.

Where do I start? At the corner of Centennial and Blair. The entire race is on the sidewalk. Straight down for the downhill segment, and straight up for the uphill!

Start at the corner of Centennial and Blair at the “S”

Where do I turn once I’ve started? No turns! Just make sure and use the crosswalk, and don’t run in the street when you see it.

Use the crosswalk!

Where do I finish? About 80 feet from the back entrance to the State Farmers Market.

Finish just before the back entrance to the State Farmers Market

What do I do after I finish? Run back up! Take as long of a break as you want, or come back later in the week. But  to count in the standings, you have to go both ways!

When can I run? Anytime between Monday, July 13th and midnight on Saturday, July 18th. Results will be posted Sunday, July 19th.

Where will I see the standings? Below, and here (down), and here (up) (Make sure you filter accordingly). Also, if you haven’t already, visit the Sir Walter Running Strava Club page (make sure and join, so that your marks count).

What do I win? The Male and Female with the fastest combined uphill/downhill time this week, as well as 2 athletes from random drawing, will receive a pair of the brand new HOKA Clifton Edge! The Clifton Edge is HOKA’s latest and most innovative shoe to date. The Clifton Edge debuts HOKA’s lightest and highest resiliency foam with an extended heel that makes running down hill smooth, soft, and speedy.

You must complete both the downhill and uphill segment to be eligible for the Clifton Edge raffle!

Run fast (or get lucky) and win a pair!

Is there an overall competition? Of course? This series was spawned from our love of le Tour de France. Every second counts when you want to be donned in Yellow! Like Polka Dots? Be King of the Mountain on the first mile, or covet the Green jersey with a fast last mile. Under 25, go for the white jersey! It’s all in fun (and healthy competition)!

Standings through Week 2 are here
